Deepa Biswokarma was born in Nepal and has lived in Berkeley since she was an infant. She started dancing at Jyoti Kala Mandir when she was four years old, and completed her Ranga Puja in 2016. Deepa is now one of the lead dancers and instructors at the dance school. Deepa has performed in venues all over the Bay Area and was fortunate to have her first solo performance in Kathmandu, Nepal. She has participated in and won various dance competitions in the Bay Area, while also having an opportunity to perform at the International Odissi festival in Bhubaneshwar 2014. Deepa received her B.A. in Psychology and is currently working as a Behavioral Therapist with an aspiration to complete her Graduate degree in the near future. As a dancer, Deepa is known for her grace, agility and technique. While she embodies the strict attention to detail as an attestation to her guru’s training, Deepa has blossomed to win the hearts of her audiences with her unique style and devotion to Odissi.
